Bots, or bot eggs, are pale yellowish eggs of the botfly. They are sticky and cling to your horse's legs, mane or shoulders. Not only are they unpleasant to look at but they are parasitic as well, using the horse as a transport vessel in summer and a host in winter. If a horse chews or licks its legs where the bot eggs are clinging, the eggs eventually become larva burrowed into the stomach or intestinal lining. This can potentially cause damage to your horse. Therefore, it is prudent to remove botfly eggs using a bot egg knife or bot stone. Bot stones are typically made of pumice and used to scrape the eggs off the horse's legs.
